You can place some small planks of wood under the plants and check them every day. They will hide under the boards during the hot part of the day and you can then squish them.David Veltenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07710293718143454000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4544358755192295336.post-48126983185941505212015-08-29T10:05:30.720-07:002015-08-29T10:05:30.720-07:00Oh no, I hadn't heard of squash bugs before. That's terrible about your winter squash plants.

Squash bugs are definitely a menace. I think Tromboncino is recommended mostly because it is so vigorous that it takes a lot to stop it! I remember the first time I grew squash years ago it was so creepy to look at I poured boiling water on them, and I avoid growing squash for years. Now I only start one or two plants in mid-July, still get some fruits but much less SB to deal with, once or twice a week I search the leaves and duct tape SB/eggs, that seems to help getting the population under control.Machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08837486464329151966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4544358755192295336.post-50451788737384936562015-08-26T08:15:27.427-07:002015-08-26T08:15:27.427-07:00Oh, that is too bad. This year I planted it too late and it looks like I will be without a harvest as the plants are already getting infected with the downy mildew from the cucumbers next door.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4544358755192295336.post-54290264540489506552015-08-26T06:02:55.543-07:002015-08-26T06:02:55.543-07:00That is so sad. Tromboncino is a very tasty squash and a great substitute for zucchini. I've got it going again this year (Tromba D'Albenga, same thing) and don't even miss the zucchini that died on me last month.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07812702328134261533noreply@blogger.com
