Yard Update - July 12

I like to post a yard update every once in a while so my family on the west coast can see what is going on.  But it is also useful for me to check back on what was happening in previous years at the same time and know what to expect in the coming weeks.

That is also one of the main reasons that I have started contributing to Daphne's Dandelions Harvest Monday posts.  This coming winter (ugh, don't really want to think about it) and next spring, I will be able to look back on the posts and adjust my seeding schedule based on how much of which plants I would like to harvest each week.

So this is just a bunch of random shots of various plants around the yard.  Too many pics to show at once, so I'm splitting it into two separate posts.

In no particular order ...

Potatoes have exploded with recent rains
Potatoes flowering so will start pulling baby potatoes soon

Single daylily
These are the more common daylilies seen all over Eastern Ontario

Isabel Pole Bean Plants in the "old" Greenhouse

Blueberry bush in container (had a dozen or so berries so far)

The "Greens" garden: non-stop harvesting

Sunflowers already - started indoors early spring

Sunflower doing its job - attracting beetles away from veggies

Swiss chard in front half, borlotti beans in back

Several carrot varieties surrounded by onions

Several beet varieties surrounded by onions

Nasturtium

Volunteer onions from last year

Onion seed head - that's why I get so many volunteers!

  1. My sunflowers have no job. And I never harvest them. I let the birds and squirrels eat them. But I love them anyway and they reseed themselves every year. There is always something so amazing about a flower that gets 8' tall.

  2. Oh my, I never thought about them reseeding. I've only grown them recently. I have a few "Kong" variety which are supposed to go to 12 feet but I'll believe it when I see it!
