May 2 - Here and There in the Yard

I seem to be very unfocused today and not accomplishing too much.  I just wander around staring at things; staring at all the things that I need to do but not doing anything!  Like the pile of soil I had delivered a couple of days ago ... 10 yards worth of soil to replenish the garden space I have and to add a couple more beds throughout the summer.

I have managed to do a few things lately.  Like moving the herbs into one of the flower gardens in the front yard.  I just wanted more space for greens in my veggie garden so all the herbs are being moved.  Actually, I started some new sage and thyme from seed this year so I might just chuck out the old plants as they are getting quite woody.   The sage, thyme plus the rosemary seedlings have all been put into their new home.  These chives were moved over from the old space and I just got this parsley in last night (with a hollyhock coming up between the two).

And I've transplanted a few raspberry canes to this new fenced area.  These plants have produced almost no berries in the past couple of years so I'm really going to baby them this year.

And I've been plenty busy in the greenhouse!

Peppers

Tomatoes

And a little birdie has been busy building a nest in my shed ... sigh, why can't I have birds that build nests in trees like other people?

But this is what I'm mostly avoiding - I need to get this garden turned over and prepped.  I do have part of it done and already planted with onion sets but there is a lot more to do here.

So I guess I'd better get back out there and just do it!

  1. I think the more that you have to do the harder it is to get anything done. It is just too daunting. I often tell myself when that happens that I only have to do a certain amount or for a certain time and then I can quit if I want.

    1. Yes, I think it just gets overwhelming. Just one thing at a time should help me make some movement!

  2. Your greenhouse is filling up - everything looks great! I often find myself in the "too much to do" haze...and, like Daphne said, setting some small goals - and for me that means actually writing them down - *usually* helps.

Around here, the birds just love building their nests on my Christmas decorations - I didn't get them down until mid-April and found a nest in the garland around my front porch. A couple of years ago, they built one in my front door wreath.

    1. I absolutely love the greenhouse, having so much fun with it! Oh my, birds in the wreath - I bet it looked pretty cute, though.

  3. Well, I was exhausted when I saw the pile of loam you had delivered. Just take baby steps. And probably time to recruit some help from the rest of the household.

  4. Wow, great greenhouse!
I know that dazed feeling very well. Writing things down does help, I quite often just write a short list of the most immediate things which need doing too.
That's a big patch of ground! At the allotment I've got lots still to clear too but am just working on the bits where I need to plant things out the soonest. Maybe mentally (or physically with sticks or canes) break your patch into small compartments and then if you get one of them clear at a time it's a good feeling :)

    1. Oh I forgot, that birds nest is very cool! Hope you get some baby birdies.

    2. Just got a peek into the nest and saw 4 eggs. The hard part will be keeping my cat away once they hatch!
