About a week and a half ago, I posted a picture of this nest that was still not quite complete. I probably didn't fully express my disappointment, so I will now. Although it is a wonderful thing to experience nature up close and see birds laying and then hatching eggs, I find it very frustrating when they choose to do so in a space that I access regularly.
But, of course, I'll be nice about it; I'll tiptoe around and only go into the shed when I really need to. I'll use some other tool instead of the one I really want that is too close to the nest. And assuming the eggs survive long enough to hatch, I'll probably even lock my outdoor cat in the house for a week to give them the best chance of survival.
In the meantime, I will moan and groan about what a nuisance it is ... and check every few hours to see if any cute chicks have popped up yet!

You are so kind to give them a spot. I've never had birds build a nest near my garden. I've had a yellow jacket's nest, but that isn't the same thing. I did avoid that particular compost pile that year though and that section of the garden.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I'd avoid the yellow jackets too. At my old place, there was a bird (not a robin, can't remember what it was) that made a nest near the garden and would dive bomb us every time we went near. This robin flies away every time I get near it!

DeleteWe have a phoebe couple that considers the support under the deck their home. Have to remember not to go out the side door from the garage while they are expecting.
