There were actually 9 babies, but one was hidden in the grass. I'm not really knowledgeable about wild turkeys but assume this is the mom.
So the mom decided to lie down right on top of one of the very few African Marigolds I managed to transplant this year (I started with 20 seedlings, dumped the whole lot accidentally, saved and transplanted 4 and now I have three left). But it's okay, because, well, wildlife and stuff, right?!
That is so neat! I had wild turkeys at my old place, and I do miss seeing them ramble about. I don't recall ever seeing the babies though, so that would be a special treat. Great photo!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen babies this small before, but I've seen them a bit older. Pretty cute ...
DeleteSorry about the marigold, but you don't mess with wild turkeys. They are nasty birds, especially with chicks. We actually see several hens together with their chicks around here, so they seem to travel in tribes.
ReplyDeleteNasty for sure, definitely won't be going near them. I'm surprised there wasn't another adult though, I do usually see them in bigger groups ...
DeleteThe chicks sure are cute, but I can't say the same for mom. We get them wandering through the neighborhood on occasion, but I've not seen any chicks.
