Harvest Monday: August 21, 2017


OK well I have more of the same this week ... peppers and tomatoes.  The top row (L to R) are Ancho, Gypsy, King of the North and Corno di Toro.  Bottom row shows Hungarian Hot Wax peppers plus Hahms Gelbe and Andrina tomatoes with two small jalapenos below.

The Hungarian Hot Wax peppers are currently fermenting for a hot sauce.  The Ancho peppers have joined those from last week in the dehydrator.  The tomatoes went into a tortilla casserole with the last of the previous season's beans.

Plus more cucumbers and a couple of tromboncino squash.  And I've started to harvest the "drying" beans.  I've already had the Vermont Cranberry in the dehydrator to speed up the drying.


I've had a few more Forme de Couer tomatoes (literally translated as Heart Shape).


And as pitiful as they look, I decided to clean up the onion bed and pull just a few carrots.




I have also cleaned out a 4 x 4 bed of potatoes with very little to show for it.  Maybe 2 lbs?  Ugh, but I still have several grow bags with potatoes on the go.

  1. Your more of the same is a lot more interesting than my more of the same - it hardly looks like summer harvests here. Dave asks what's for dinner? And my response is zucchini or broccoli?

  2. You are so far ahead of me on peppers, already making hot sauce! That's a lovely lineup you have there. Too bad about the spuds, though they look good to me. Hopefully the grow bags will be more productive. I've a mind to try a couple of them myself next year since I stopped growing them in the ground.

    1. Some people get huge yields out of grow bags. Mine are OK, more importantly they don't take up a lot of space and could be easily dumped out for harvest.

  3. Nice harvest. I'm anxiously awaiting the first ancho peppers to fully ripen.

    1. Yes well, I do already have ancho peppers, but unfortunately the four or five I have are all I'm getting. I only had one plant and it was not overly productive.

  4. It's great seeing all your ripe peppers, and it's really cool that you make your own hot sauces. We're starting to transition towards a fall garden at this point.
