Harvest Monday: May 11

My computer is slowly dying ... I have a new one but haven't switched over my photos and programs yet.  The number five key doesn't work on this one so I haven't shown the year in the title of the post although I normally would show the full date.  I also no longer have use of the hyphen key (I also can't use the delete button but the backspace seems to meet my needs for now).  But the lack of the Ctrl key is problematic (extra work to copy and paste).  Time to switch over to the new computer soon!

But on to the garden ... I gave my chives a haircut (much needed).  179 grams worth!   And I continue to harvest asparagus as it pops up, although I'm careful to leave a few to mature into ferns (early years for the asparagus patch still).  I had 4 harvests (3 to 4 spears each) amounting to 294 grams for the week (actually two ninety five but, you know, no five button).

One small batch went into an omelet (I've never been very good at making omelet's but if not pretty, this one sure was tasty!).

I'm mostly planting and prepping other gardens, so not a lot of harvest action.  So lots going on, but not quite ready for me to harvest much.  Check out Daphne's Dandelions to see what other gardeners are harvesting (or cooking) this week.

P.S. to Wordpress users ... I try to leave comments (Norma, Marcia) but it asks me for my wordpress password.  I no longer use wordpress but still have an account that I'm trying to close.  Today I tried using googleplus but it still wouldn't let me complete posting of the comment.  I'll keep working on it!

  1. I have chives too that have not grown as well these last two years. I wonder if I need new plants or they just need a good dose of fertilizer. Yours look good. And lucky you having asparagus.

    1. Yes, I am lucky to have asparagus! In fact, I might need a few more plants.

  2. That keyboard sounds familiar - I must have its cousin since my space bar sticks occasionally and other keys have issues too! I love asparagus with eggs, and I usually make a frittata since they are easier for me than an omelet. Tonight we are making quiche with asparagus. Looking at your lovely chives reminds me they would go well in there too!

    1. I think I'll try a frittata soon. Never made one before but I have a friend who lives on them!

    1. Chives almost always look good before their first haircut. Now they'll be all brownish on top ... oh well, they still taste good.

  4. Well, seems like some wonderful harvests to me, especially considering I'm still at zero! Computer troubles are never fun - I hate getting a new computer - I always end up forgetting to change this or that formatting or to install programs, etc., so then everything takes you twice as long to do because you have to keep going back and adding or changing things.

  5. Oh yuck, setting up a new computer, I think I'd rather pull a gardenful of weeds! Beautiful chives. Mine have already pooped out, don't know why, perhaps it's time to start anew.

    1. Rather pull weeds!? Never, I'll take computer setup over that any day!

    2. We aren't in agreement on this. I'm with Michelle. I'd rather pull weeds than set up a computer. Last time I had to do it, I got my son to help me. Not because I needed help really, but I hated it so much. Luckily mine is a desktop so I'd just replace the keyboard if it failed. In fact my husband wishes that I'd do that now as some of the keys are worn off and he can't see them. I don't look at my keyboard so it isn't an issue with me (thanks mom for making me take typing as a kid).

    3. OK, I admit it, I'm a bit of a tech geek ... not so geeky that it's easy, but geeky enough that I like it. :)

  6. Nice to have asparagus, even just a few spears. You must have a laptop. If a desktop you can just buy a new keyboard. Even a laptop can have its keyboard swapped.

    1. Hmm, good point David. I've already had a new laptop "donated" to me, but if I can get a new keyboard, it would be silly to chuck this laptop if it can be swapped out.
