Harvest Monday: October 30, 2017

Well, it's getting close to the end of the season but I do still have some carrots and parsnip to be harvested - maybe in a couple of weeks.  These peppers (which were planted in hay bales outside) were harvested about 10 days ago just before a frost.  And I picked another handful of Hungarian Hot Wax peppers from the greenhouse yesterday morning.  I have more Feher Ozon in the greenhouse, but I'm not sure how long they will hold out with some cooler weather forecast for later this week.  In the meantime, it is RAINING.  The forecast was for 100+ millimeters of rain between Sunday and Monday and I am quite sure that amount fell.

I will be popping over to Our Happy Acres to see what other gardeners have going on this week.

  1. Big time rain! I hope it's welcome, it sure would be here. We are forecast to get some later this week but it won't be that much. Your investment in the greenhouse seems to be paying off. Will you be able to grow anything in there over the winter?

    1. I have spinach in the greenhouse now which should be good for a few more weeks. But it's not heated (maybe someday!), so as soon as the temps drop below -5 Celsius, it's pretty much done until spring! But absolutely, I would recommend a greenhouse to anyone in northern climates to extend the season, I've added at least 4-6 weeks for most plants.

    2. We are lacking rain here in the south of the UK right now, but I am sure the weather will make up for it soon... hopefully not in the deluge that you guys are getting!! We have added a biggish polytunnel this year to extend our growing and it is already proving a good investment. Not sure how low the temps will go inside over the Winter, it being the first year

  2. That is a lot of rain for sure! Our greenhouse extends the season for us too. I have several of the potted peppers in mine, hoping to get a few more ripe hot ones for kimchi.
