Harvest Monday: October 31, 2016

Happy harvest Monday, happy Halloween (whatever happened to spelling it Hallowe'en) and happy b-day to my brother!  What a day.  I arrived home around 4am last night from a visit to my family in BC ... got back to my car after the flight and my battery was dead so waited for the auto club to give me a boost.

I'm pretty much sleeping the day away but popped out to the greenhouse (thanks Glen for watering while I was away!) and picked the last of the peppers.  These are definitely the last, as the plants all died.  The greenhouse is not heated and there is a small gap under the door (need to do something about that) so when the temperature drops below freezing, the plants die.  So the plants were dead, but the peppers were totally fine still, although not as mature as they should be.

This is 4 pounds of peppers, mostly Feher Ozon (along the top).  Also included in the harvest (sort of left to right, bottom) are a few jalapenos, Hungarian Hot Wax, King of the North, Gypsy and Super Red Pimiento.

Once I get myself caught up after the holiday, I look forward to seeing what everyone else has been doing the past couple of weeks.  Linking in here to Harvest Monday hosted by Our Happy Acres.

  1. Wow - those are a lot of peppers to be greeted by! I'm quite enjoying the Feher Ozon pepper powder - only wish I had more of it!

    1. Yes, unfortunately many are immature and quite small. Oh well, they'll get chopped up and into the freezer for cooking later on!

  2. Too bad about the greenhouse freeze, but I guess it has to happen sometime. Sorry to hear about your battery woes but it's good you got a jump start!

    1. I still have some greens growing in the greenhouse. The peppers really weren't doing much anyway with the low temperatures.

  3. The peppers look really good for the last of the year, especially from dead plants. Hope your holiday was a good one.

    1. Thanks Michelle! My visit to the west coast was lovely with lots of family time. But definitely more of a "wet" coast with all of the rain!

  4. That doesn't sound like a very nice welcome home from your car! Although that pile of peppers hopefully made up for it.

    1. Darn car. Turns out I left on an interior light, which is weird because I don't think I have ever turned on an interior light the entire time I've owned the car. So my fault. The peppers and just seeing my garden again made up for it indeed!

  5. That's a nice harvest of peppers. It reminds me that last year I left a couple of fruits on the plant to save for a special meal but by the time I went to use them they'd gone mushy. So I musht (hoho) make sure I use mine up this year.
