Grilled Lamb Patties with Tzatziki on Pita


1 1/2 lb. ground lamb
1/2 cup minced red onion
1/4 cup mint finely chopped
3 tsp ground cumin
Pita Bread
Feta Cheese
Tzatziki Recipe (see below)


Mix first 4 ingredients in a bowl, season with S&P.  Form 16 small round patties.

Grill until medium-rare (about 2-3 minutes per side).

I served these open face, but you can use pita bread with pockets and make it more like a burger (or just make 5-6 burger patties and use regular buns!).  Spread pita bread with tzatziki, add 3-4 grilled patties, then top with lettuce, tomato and feta cheese (hmm ... and black olives would have been great).


Tzatziki Recipe:

This is copied directly from my earlier post on spanakopita.  Mix together the following:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 cup grated cucumber, seeds removed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp chopped fresh mint
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Let it rest for an hour or two for the flavours to develop.  Add more garlic or salt to taste.
